Jean-Paul Cleren was born in Belle-Ile en Mer in 1940. He began drawing and painting at a very early age, even before his training in the arts. From 1952 to 1957 he attended the Marguerite Allard Academy in Marseille. He settled in Saint-Tropez in 1960 and exhibits his works annually at the gallery Georges Barry. In 1967 and 1968 he took part in the Salon de Mai in Paris. Since 1969 he has exhibited regularly in Geneva in the gallery Lambert Monet. In 1983, the gallery Mosaic in Paris his works next to those of Salvador Dali and Leonor Fini.
