biography

Franz Eggenschwiler was born on December 9, 1930 in Solothurn. After training as a glass painter in Bern, he practiced his day job until 1968. In addition, he was always intensively artistic. Inspired by the arts and crafts school, the Max von Mühlenen painting school and the very interesting “Bernese climate” of the 1950s, he embarked on a highly individual artistic career. He became internationally known through several larger exhibitions abroad, especially through his appearance at “Documenta 5” in Kassel in 1972. From 1985 to 1987, various museums in Germany, Holland and Switzerland showed his works. From 1981 he was professor of artistic graphics at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf for 15 years. Franz Eggenschwiler died in Bern in July 2000 at the age of 69.
