Collection: Joosten, Ben

Born in Rotterdam,  1931  - died in 2013

Ben Joosten was originally a sculptor. Later he started making compositions with old-fashioned letterpress materials. He built large compositions of wooden letters and lines, which he printed himself on a letterpress press. In doing so, he continued the tradition of old typographic masters such as Werkman. The relief print from the collection is a black surface made entirely of copper lines. The structure of these lines is fully visible in the print. This means that it is not a contemplative black surface, but an area that invites observation and study.
