Alberto Magnelli was born on July 1, 1888 in Florence. At the age of 26 he traveled to Paris, where he met Pablo Picasso and Fernand Léger, among others, and studied the works of famous painters. Remaining self-taught as an artist, Magnelli devoted himself intensively to abstract painting and achieved a highly acclaimed mastery. In 1955 and 1959 Alberto Magnelli took part in the documenta in Kassel. Magnelli died on April 20, 1971 in Meudon.
