Rauschenberg was born on October 22, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas. After studying at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1946/47, he stayed at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1947 and then became a student of Josef Albers at Black Mountain College in the USA. Rauschenberg put together "Combine Paintings" from everyday objects, in which he combined these objects with paintings; he also made collages and organized so-called "happenings". With his colorful pictures, Rauschenberg is considered a forerunner of Pop art.
