He studied painting first in Croyden and in Newcastle in England, then at Harvard USA. He has been an American citizen since 1983. Scully has been a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich since 2002. He was nominated for the British Turner Prize in 1989 and 1993. Most of his works are variations of colored horizontal and vertical lines and bars, combined with checkerboard patterns.
